DJ Dates, Writing, New Class, Upcoming Workshops

Greetings Seekers, Movement and Music Lovers,

_DSC5194

I will be DJ’ing two dates this month (June) at Santa Barbara Dance Tribe. I would love to see you on the dance floor some time soon. During evening Tribe sessions, I tend to play more deep electronic mixes, with a lot of layers/sounds, including Middle House with Acid Crunk undertones. These sets are also layered with Downtempo, Instrumental, and Psyambient sections so dancers have the opportunity to tap into authentic movement, and the rich state of slow, intention-filled movement patterns. Sundays offer similar waves, however mix in some other “daytime” elements.

BE GROUNDED WITH SELF AMIDST THE FIRE

What does it really mean when we look to our external environment for solidification and what many call groundedness? This is an interesting question when one explores the idea that finding center within Self is the only real thing we can do to subsist in a world where impermanence is an incessant swell. There is a cadence to the roll of wonder that exists within the space of our hearts that just simply understands. That part that knows that for some off (or on, depending on your optimism level today) reason, this dance is relevant to the materialization of something far beyond human cognition. And yet study after study we aim to explore the unconscious like a child with a new magnifying glass and a sun beam. “What can I burn today?”, she asks. And the great comedic mystery that this analogy offers, is that the piece of paper being burned with the magnifying glass is part of something so much greater than the act of burning alone. That makes me think of a Rumi quote….

“If your knowledge of fire comes from words alone, you must step into the fire. There is no certainty until you burn”

Much love,
-Romi
