Sara Murdoch, AMFT

About Sara

As a relational and somatically informed psychotherapist, I feel called to facilitate
a connection for my clients between healing and a life that feels authentic and
inspired. I view clients not as diagnoses but as whole and unique individuals who
may be struggling with some overwhelming challenges. Through connection and
deep listening, I help my clients discover their unique potential. Together, we
create a path to healing with an organic and holistic therapeutic approach.

Background

I hold a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology, emphasizing depth psychology, from Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara. My experience is broadened through extensive training in somatic therapy, meditation, mindfulness, and breathwork. I am also certified in EMDR, Ecotherapy, and Reiki Level I, and I’ve completed a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training. My professional experience is varied, encompassing work with individuals, couples, and teenagers across different settings. This diverse background enables me to offer a holistic and tailored approach to therapy, addressing the unique needs of each client.

Approach

I create a welcoming space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered. My work with individuals enhances my somatic and person-centered approach with couples, fostering stronger connections and healthier communication. In my work with teenagers and young adults, I address the unique challenges and anxiety of adolescence with compassion, understanding, and customized therapeutic strategies.

My expertise extends to a variety of psychotherapeutic issues, including trauma, depression, anxiety, addiction, and chronic illness. Additionally, I guide individuals through diverse life challenges like relationship issues, academic challenges, career transitions, empty nesting, and divorce. On a personal note, I am a mother (to an adult child, a dog, and a horse), a surfer, a hiker, an avid nature enthusiast, and an adventurer at heart.

Sara offers counseling for teens, couples, and adults and is committed to creating a supportive and transformative environment. Click the ‘Request Therapy’ button to fill out our inquiry form, or join the waitlist.

Good Faith Estimate (No Surprises Act – H.R. 133)

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

Romi Cumes Somatic Therapy, P.C. is an Anthem Blue Cross Provider for Behavioral Health Services

To ensure transparency in our billing process, it’s important to understand how insurance coverage works. If you are an Anthem Blue Cross insurance holder and considering psychotherapy services (“outpatient behavioral health”), we appreciate your attention to the following information.

Billing and Coverage

As a contracted provider with Anthem Blue Cross, we will directly handle billing with them for your covered therapy sessions. However, it is the patient’s responsibility to confirm their benefits and co-pay amounts directly with their insurance provider before beginning treatment.

Please note: Anthem Blue Cross of California is NOT the same as Blue Shield of California. We do not accept Blue Shield of California.

Deductibles

If your plan includes a deductible, please be aware that you will be responsible for the full cost of any services rendered out-of-pocket until your deductible limit is met. Once your deductible is fulfilled, your insurance will begin to cover a portion or all of the cost, depending on your specific plan.

Provider Availability

Please note that the availability of our providers to take on new insurance clients may be limited. If the provider you initially inquire about is unavailable, we will refer you to another skilled practitioner on our team, or we would be happy to add you to our waitlist.

Questions about your Coverage?

If you have any questions or require assistance in navigating your insurance coverage, we recommend calling the member services number on the back of your insurance card. They will be able to provide you with the most accurate and personalized information regarding your specific plan.

Gift Certificates for Bodywork

Offer healing and rejuvenation to someone you care about with a gift certificate for Bodywork with Romi. From deep relaxation to foundational healing, each session is an exploration into innate body wisdom, and a step towards a more harmonious, vibrant self.

Please make sure to review the following Purchase & Usage Terms before choosing your desired gift certificate.

  • These gift certificates/pre-paid session vouchers are non-refundable.
  • Prepayments will always be valid for the purchased amount, but they must be redeemed within 90 days of purchase or they may not fully cover potential practitioner rate increases.
  • If a gift certificate or voucher is used after 90 days of purchase, there may be an additional fee required at the time of service to compensate providers for the difference between the purchased amount and their current rates.
