Meet our associates

As part of our mission to support people exploring the profound relationship between mind-body awareness and personal growth, Romi serves as a clinical supervisor for skilled Associate Marriage & Family Therapists who are fundamentally committed to a transformative healing approach. Our team offers in-person therapy sessions in Santa Barbara, and online via secure telehealth for residents throughout California.

Sara Murdoch, AMFT

I am a relational psychotherapist that feels called to facilitate a connection for my clients between healing and a life that feels authentic and inspired. I don’t believe that you are a diagnosis but a whole person who may be struggling with some overwhelming challenges.  Connecting with you as an individual and listening deeply to your story helps me to see your unique potential. Together we will create a path to healing using an organic and holistic approach to therapy.

I received a Master’s in Counseling Psychology with a depth psychology orientation from Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara with additional training in somatic therapy, meditation, mindfulness and breathwork. I hold certifications in EMDR, Ecotherapy, Reiki Level I, and am a RYT 200 hr yoga teacher. My work with diverse populations from a variety of backgrounds, includes work with individuals, couples, and groups.

My professional experience includes working with trauma, depression, anxiety, addiction, relational issues, and navigating challenging life experiences like empty nesting, divorce, aging, break ups, career transitions, and chronic illness. In my personal life, I am a Mom (to an adult human child, two dogs and a horse), a surfer, a hiker, a nature lover, and an adventurer.

Sara is available for counseling with teens, adults and couples.

Good Faith Estimate (No Surprises Act – H.R. 133)

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

Romi Cumes Somatic Therapy, P.C. is an Anthem Blue Cross Provider for Behavioral Health Services

To ensure transparency in our billing process, it’s important to understand how insurance coverage works. If you are an Anthem Blue Cross insurance holder and considering psychotherapy services (“outpatient behavioral health”), we appreciate your attention to the following information.

Billing and Coverage

As a contracted provider with Anthem Blue Cross, we will directly handle billing with them for your covered therapy sessions. However, it is the patient’s responsibility to confirm their benefits and co-pay amounts directly with their insurance provider before beginning treatment.

Please note: Anthem Blue Cross of California is NOT the same as Blue Shield of California. We do not accept Blue Shield of California.

Deductibles

If your plan includes a deductible, please be aware that you will be responsible for the full cost of any services rendered out-of-pocket until your deductible limit is met. Once your deductible is fulfilled, your insurance will begin to cover a portion or all of the cost, depending on your specific plan.

Provider Availability

Please note that the availability of our providers to take on new insurance clients may be limited. If the provider you initially inquire about is unavailable, we will refer you to another skilled practitioner on our team, or we would be happy to add you to our waitlist.

Questions about your Coverage?

If you have any questions or require assistance in navigating your insurance coverage, we recommend calling the member services number on the back of your insurance card. They will be able to provide you with the most accurate and personalized information regarding your specific plan.

Gift Certificates for Bodywork

Offer healing and rejuvenation to someone you care about with a gift certificate for Bodywork with Romi. From deep relaxation to foundational healing, each session is an exploration into innate body wisdom, and a step towards a more harmonious, vibrant self.

Please make sure to review the following Purchase & Usage Terms before choosing your desired gift certificate.

  • These gift certificates/pre-paid session vouchers are non-refundable.
  • Prepayments will always be valid for the purchased amount, but they must be redeemed within 90 days of purchase or they may not fully cover potential practitioner rate increases.
  • If a gift certificate or voucher is used after 90 days of purchase, there may be an additional fee required at the time of service to compensate providers for the difference between the purchased amount and their current rates.
