From Shame to Growth: Talking Infidelity with Therapist Romi Cumes, LMFT
I thoroughly enjoyed being a guest speaker on ‘The Other Woman and the Wife,’ hosted by Chelsea Smallwood, my colleague and friend. In this episode, I dive into infidelity’s psychological complexities, drawing from my experience as a licensed marriage and family therapist.
By examining the challenges individuals encounter following infidelity, we challenge and explore some traditional marriage and relationship counseling concepts. And through our exploration of somatic-relational therapy, I offer unique insights into relationship coaching and self-care. Our capacity to focus on the body is vital for addressing healing, especially in the context of infidelity and affairs. Our conversation explores a range of topics, including ways to enhance communication and bring more intentionality into actions. A crucial part of our discussion focuses on recognizing negative beliefs and body tension, which is often exacerbated by the critical inner voice. I also demonstrate a straightforward but powerful somatic therapy exercise, designed to help manage stress and reduce anxiety.
I hope this discussion serves as a valuable resource for anyone seeking personal development or aspiring to enrich their relationships through body-focused awareness. Join Chelsea and me in this lively episode, as we tackle the sensitive subject of infidelity with depth, heart-felt understanding and humor!
